It’s 1969. The Carlettes — three young women, childhood friends — leave Moose Town, Minnesota in a VW bus, headed to New York City for a singing contest. But what happens when life comes along for the ride? From debates over feminism and Betty Friedan, break ups, break downs and the rescue of another young woman they meet along the way, Mickey, Sharon, and Bonnie are all on the road, each looking to find her place in this new world comin’.
With an original concept and book by DAYLE ANN HUNT and featuring songs made famous by CASS ELLIOT, PETULA CLARK, and LESLEY GORE, NEW WORLD COMIN' is a toe-tappin', heart-warmin' new “juke-book” journey aimed at regional and community theatres and university programs that seek musicals with small casts and minimal orchestra, set and costume requirements.

THE MUSIC
Set in the late '60s, NEW WORLD COMIN’ taps into the rich soundscape of the era, drawing inspiration from female icons of the day. These artists, on the cusp of monumental cultural change, provide the perfect soundtrack to the story’s themes.

Feminist themes began to emerge in music, helping to shape the second-wave feminist movement and its call for equality. These songs provided a platform for women to express their experiences, challenge traditional gender roles, and find solidarity within a broader social movement.

NEW WORLD COMIN' is written to be cast with six actors (4 Women, 2 Men), but is expandable to work with larger-sized regional, community, and university theatres.
